A few real-world examples help make the formula feel less abstract.
Example 1: A TV screen listed as 127 cm
127 ÷ 2.54 = 50 inches. So that's a 50-inch TV. Screen sizes in the US are always listed diagonally in inches, which is why this conversion comes up so often when buying from overseas retailers.
Example 2: A piece of fabric that's 85 cm long
85 ÷ 2.54 = 33.46 inches, so just about 33 and a half inches. Useful when your sewing pattern uses inches but your measuring tape is in centimeters.
Example 3: A child's height at 112 cm
112 ÷ 2.54 = 44.09 inches, which is 3 feet 8 inches. Handy for things like amusement park height requirements or figuring out clothing sizes.
Example 4: A desk that's 75 cm tall
75 ÷ 2.54 = 29.53 inches. Standard desk height in the US tends to fall between 28 and 30 inches, so this one sits right in that sweet spot.
