How to Convert Inches to Centimeters
Converting inches to centimeters is straightforward once you know the relationship between the two units. The United States primarily uses the imperial system, which measures length in inches, feet, and yards. Most of the rest of the world uses the metric system, where centimeters and meters do the heavy lifting. That difference is why conversions come up so often.
To convert, you multiply the number of inches by 2.54. That's it. So if you have 10 inches, you multiply 10 by 2.54 and get 25.4 centimeters. The math is simple enough to do in your head for round numbers, but a calculator saves time when you're dealing with decimals or fractions.
If you're converting a measurement that includes both feet and inches, convert each part separately and add them together. For example, 5 feet 4 inches would be (5 × 12) + 4 = 64 inches total, then 64 × 2.54 = 162.56 cm.
