How to Use the Work Hours Calculator
Using a work hours calculator is pretty straightforward. You enter your start time, your end time, and any break time you want to subtract. The calculator does the rest and spits out your total hours worked, often in both hours/minutes format and decimal form.
Here's what you'll typically need to have on hand:
- Start time for each shift or work session
- End time for that same shift
- Break duration in minutes (lunch breaks, rest periods, etc.)
- Your hourly rate if you want a pay estimate
Most calculators let you enter time in 12-hour format (with AM/PM) or 24-hour military time. Either works fine as long as you're consistent. If you're calculating a full workweek, you'll enter each day's times separately and the calculator adds them up across all five (or however many) days.
