How to Use the Dog Size Calculator
Using a dog size calculator is pretty straightforward. Most versions ask for two things: your puppy's current age (in weeks or months) and their current weight. Some calculators also ask for the breed, which can sharpen the estimate considerably.
Here's the basic process:
- Enter your puppy's age as accurately as possible. If you adopted and aren't sure of the exact birth date, estimate as best you can.
- Weigh your puppy. A kitchen scale works fine for small pups; for bigger ones, weigh yourself holding the dog, then subtract your own weight.
- Enter the breed if the calculator supports it. For mixed breeds, choose "unknown" or pick the closest known mix if you have DNA test results.
- Hit calculate and review the estimated adult weight range.
The result is usually a weight range rather than a single number, which is actually more useful. Dogs aren't robots, and a range reflects the natural variation in how they grow. Pay attention to where your pup falls within that range as they age.
