How to Find the Day of the Week for Any Date
Finding the weekday for a specific date isn't as complicated as it sounds. At the simplest level, you need three pieces of information: the day, the month, and the year. From those, you can work your way to the correct weekday using a formula or a lookup table.
The most reliable approach for dates in the modern era uses the Gregorian calendar, which most of the world adopted between 1582 and the early 1900s depending on the country. If you're looking up dates before your country switched over, you'd need to use the older Julian calendar rules instead.
For everyday use, though, the Gregorian system covers virtually everything you'd want to calculate. Online calculators handle this automatically. If you want to do it by hand, there are a few established formulas that work consistently, and the most popular one is Zeller's Congruence.
